Bird,s as pets wrong? - Pet care and feed

bird,s as pets wrong

@ thefinal

By your standards a dog would not be considered "domesticated"

"Domestication (from Latin domesticus) is the process whereby a population of animals or plants, through a process of artificial selection, is changed at the genetic level, accentuating traits desired by humans."

EDIT:
"Birds scream and pluck due to the frustrations of living in a cage so hence they would have be bred without wings."

And dogs bark and bite in frustration but you don?t see people breeding them without teeth and a larynx. You do, however, see them being breed with calmer demeanor, similar to bird domestication.

You seem to be under the idea that all bird owners are irresponsible. Cry me a river. Not all domesticated bird?s are depressed, sickly, feather-pluckers. And to say such a thing has to be the most ridiculous thing i?ve ever fathomed. Until I see some legit proof that is not subjective proof, as similar to what you stated above, then i?m sorry but I stand by my stance.

Also, I find it ironic that the website you listed has tons of people with DOMESTICATED birds.

A domesticated bird is suitable as a pet, as this is what they are brought up to be, if you have a bird as a pet and you release it into the wild, this is bad as the bird will die in a few days, as it does not know how to survive in the wild. Birds as pets are good as long as they are domesticated. To provide more comfort and happiness to the bird, buy it a massive cage, and if possible try not to clip your birds wings, and let it roam around the house with you. If you have seen the start of the animated movie Rio, that is an example how great pets birds make, as long as you give them the happiness and freedom they need.

Birds kept as pets are not domesticated.Just because an animal is born or hatched in captivity doesn?t make it domesticated.A tiger or lion born in captivity and raised in a human home is not a domesticated species. It will reach maturity and want to be a lion or tiger.

Birds are wild animals forced to live out their lives in cages vs. flying miles a day. Often they live alone and they are flock animals needing to live in groups and work in groups.

Birds as pets are wrong. It?s cruel.

"Domestication (from Latin domesticus) is the process whereby a population of animals or plants, through a process of artificial selection, is changed at the genetic level, accentuating traits desired by humans."

Thank you ?Thumbs Down 4 You? for proving my point exactly with your quote.

Our dog breeds were not a chance of evolution; they were all created by man for a purpose or a task.Their anatomy was changed through years and years of selective breeding from either the wolf or dingo to suit man. This is why some breeds are so large or so small. This is why some breeds are brachycephalic (flat faced) such as shih tzu, pug, bull dog and some breeds long muzzled. Many cat breeds are also domesticated.

But not one blue and gold macaw, cockatoo, budgie or cockatiel is nor has ever been domesticated. They have not been bred by man to change them in the least to make them more suitable for living in captivity with man.

We don?t amputate the legs of our dogs but we may as well amputate the wings of our birds as they were designed to fly hundreds of miles in one day and to soar and be birds.

Domestication, should you study further than this basic quote means to selectively breed the animal to a condition allowing the animal the most benefit living in captivity.Birds scream and pluck due to the frustrations of living in a cage so hence they would have be bred without wings. Also should you study further domestication means the animal seeks out humans and prefers humans. It?s well known if you want a ?tame? budgie or other bird to cage the bird alone as it will always default to its own kind for companionship.

Sorry but you lost this one Thumbs Down.

You have to remember a bird isn?t a pet for children if they need a pet to spend time with or to actually "pet". Birds also can be very noisy, at daytime or night, you need to note that. Taking care of a bird isn?t difficult, anyone can handle it. Depends for what purpose do you want a pet for and for who.

It depends who is going to take care of the bird. For children, given them a pet bird is not a good idea. The person needs to be responsible and be ready to take care of the bird, year round and on a daily basis.
